Relationship Leads to Merger of Two HEMP Companies, Assisted by a Third

by Christina Dreiling on August 10th, 2017 in

On August 1, 2017, Jon Schram (HEMP Class of 2000), president of The Purple Guys, and Ed Van Buskirk (HEMP Class of 2013), president of We Are IT, shook hands on a merger that will create one of the largest IT managed service providers in the region.

The merger of the two graduates of the Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program came about as a result of years of a professional peer relationship, fostered by their membership in HEMP. Mike O'Malley of O'Keeffe & O'Malley (HEMP Mentor since 2001) facilitated the sale.

"I've known Ed professionally for many years and have always respected Ed and his business," said Schram. "Knowing he was another HEMP graduate added to my belief that We Are IT was the perfect fit for The Purple Guys growth and expansion."

Since 2001 The Purple Guys has provided world-class IT services for small and mid-market businesses in the Kansas City area and beyond. With the addition of We Are IT, The Purple Guys increases their employee count to 40 and now provides outsourced IT support to over 200 organizations representing over 5,000 local employees.
